Sewing adventures

So this morning I woke up with the sewing bug. I was itching to make something else with this adorable fabric my daughter picked at the store last night.

Those who know me well, know that I am really just a novice sewer. I can make "magic bags" and basic drawstring bags for presents and such, but even the draw string bags need a bit of refining for where the draw string part goes (in my opinion). And not only do I not sew anything else, sewing is the one craft where I really doubt myself. I don't know why, I just do.

So what possessed me to make this adorable headband this morning?

(You can find the tutorial here)

Well, last night I made this skirt out of my son's too-small-and-ripped-at-the-knee jeans following this tutorial, as part of a Pinterest challenge my friends and I are doing together.

(Skirt tutorial found here)

I was so unsure of myself, that I had to call a knowledgeable friend half way through my project. I really didn't think I'd be able to finish it. That's how non-confident I am with sewing!

I couldn't be more happy to have proven myself wrong!!

Mind you, the my gathering method needs some work, and I'm pretty sure I'll need a serger if I want the skirt to stand the test of time without ripping apart from the jean, but I did it!

And I had one happy little girly this morning :)

Since I'm in the mood to get things done now, I am off to go setup my Etsy shop, once and for all. This is the year, when I am finally going to sell my stuff! Though I'll keep the sewing for my family, the toys, gnomes, fairies, wands, felt play food and such, yes! It's time to get rid of this stash that's been accumulating. After all, creating makes me happy, so why not spread the happiness around :)

Wishing you a fabulous day!

  2. Not only is she "one happy little girly", but one that is stylishly dressed in her mama-mades! THAT is a deeply satisfying success.

For what it's worth, I don't have any idea what I'm doing when I sew either, but I just go ahead and do it anyway. Often I'm pleasantly surprised with the result (but don't go looking closely at the seams or anything).

  3. Haha, I am the same way with sewing. I do it anyway, and despite everything, I think I am actually getting better. *gasp!*

I have wanted to open an Etsy shop for years, but the CPSIA makes me sick and dizzy, so I have never managed, good luck!

  4. Such a cute way to fix up old jeans, I will have to remember this one, I keep a basket of all our old jeans for projects, this would be a fun one!
