But today has been raining off and on and it's been pretty chilly, so no outdoor time for us :( After I got both kids to have some quiet time in their rooms as I talked about here (and it's still working wonders by the way!), I knew I'd have to find something to keep the kids busy. What better, than to have them experience something new!
So I made goop.
Goop is this cornstarch based slime, except it does not feel slimy and your hands are super easy to wash when you are done. I had seen lots of recipes for it before, but never made it. Turns out it's really neat, and addictive to play with.

- 1 3/4 cups cornstarch
- 1 1/2 cup water
- Food coloring (optional)
Mix and play!
How easy is that? When you move it around fast enough, it stays hard. You can almost roll it around in your hands like play dough. But within seconds of stopping, it turns to liquid.
Tip: If like us, you want to continue playing with it throughout the day and it gets too dry, just add water, a tablespoon at a time and mix slowly in between. That way, you can literally make this last all day.

They were completely fascinated by it!

This picture of my son cracks me up! I just had to share :) Within a couple minutes though, he had both hands in it again, and was having a good 'ol time.

And there they were, snuggling together under a blanket, making each other feel safe. Such a cute moment! But I am really hoping for some more sunshine tomorrow though. If not, we'll just have to try another rainy day activity!
I hope you had a good Monday!?
That's awesome! I've been scared to try it....fear of the mess....but it's on my list of rainy day activities now! Not sure how my kiddos will react...prob like the pic of your son which is too cute!
ReplyDeleteDon't you just love when our little siblings are sweet and caring to each other? I love, love, love witnessing that!
We love good around here! Even I find it totally fascinating!
ReplyDeleteYep, goop is great fun. A great sensory activity. After playing with it for a bit, my children often plaster it on themselves!
ReplyDeleteWe use green food coloring and play with it after reading Barthalemew and the Oobleck (Dr. Suess). My Chemistry teacher in HS actually did this with the class and had us try to figure out what it was. She was an awesome teacher.
ReplyDeleteI love how soft your hands feel after playing with it.
Thanks for linking up to Show and Tell Saturday.
I think I'll try making this with my kids today. They'll love it.
ReplyDeleteIn door activity's need to be saved for rainy days. I always want to he sun to be out though. I think it's healthier for all of us that way.
